Promotool expands scent technology with space-inspired fragrance and advanced training

Scent technology company Promotool Co., Ltd. has announced several developments regarding its fragrance research and product availability. The company is launching its ‘Space Scent® Aroma Spray’ on the JAL Shopping website starting August 13, 2026. The fragrance was developed based on astronaut testimonies describing a ‘sweet and sour, burnt’ smell after spacewalks, as well as the presence of ethyl formate—a compound found in the center of the Milky Way that smells like raspberries and rum.

Additionally, Promotool announced that Takeshi Watanabe, the company’s senior perfumer and deputy director of its Scent Technology Institute, has completed an advanced course at ISIPCA, a prestigious French perfume school. The training focused on advanced perfumery techniques and the scientific design of scents. The company intends to utilize the expertise gained from this international training to enhance its research and development capabilities and to train the next generation of Japanese perfumers.
