Pronabec modifies scholarship and educational credit requirements
The Peruvian government has approved a comprehensive modification to the regulations of the National Program of Scholarships and Educational Credit (Pronabec). Following a new decree from the Ministry of Education, the changes introduce stricter academic requirements for students receiving state scholarships and modify conditions for undergraduate and postgraduate financing.
Under the new rules, scholarship recipients must maintain academic performance within the top third of their class, according to their institution's criteria. Students are also required to maintain an approving weighted average in all academic periods and enroll in the number of credits specified in their study plan.
The regulation also updates the grounds for losing scholarship benefits. A scholarship may be revoked if a student fails the same course twice, fails two different courses during the scholarship period, or obtains a failing weighted average in any academic period. Additionally, permanent withdrawal from an educational institution will result in the loss of the benefit. A transitional regime has been established for students who were already awarded scholarships before the decree took effect, allowing them certain protections regarding repeated courses.
