Proper Storage Guidelines Keep Melons Fresh and Sweet
Storing whole melons at a cool, well‑ventilated room temperature helps them finish ripening without losing flavor or texture. Once ripe, moving the melon to the refrigerator slows respiration, preserving its water content, sweetness and crispness for several more days. Avoid placing the fruit near windows, stoves or direct sunlight, which can accelerate spoilage.
After cutting, the exposed flesh should be put in the fridge immediately. Prolonged exposure to room temperature causes moisture loss, making the flesh limp and the taste less sweet. Keeping cut melon pieces chilled extends their freshness and prevents them from becoming mushy.
