Property professionals back UK homebuying reforms
A poll conducted by Countrywide Surveying Services (CSS) reveals that 77% of property professionals believe proposed government reforms to the homebuying and selling process will deliver positive change. Among those surveyed, 18% expressed being “very confident” and 59% were “somewhat confident” regarding the impact of these reforms.
The discussion, held during a CSS webinar attended by over 300 surveyors, brokers, and lenders, focused on whether providing upfront property information, such as condition reports, could improve transactions. Matthew Cumber, Managing Director of CSS, noted that while there is broad acceptance that the process can be improved, the industry must now focus on how to implement these changes effectively to make a genuine difference in transactions.
Regarding political leadership, respondents were asked if the appointment of Andy Burnham as Prime Minister would influence the housing market. While 36% believed his appointment made positive change more likely, 16% felt it made change less likely, and 48% stated it would make no difference. The government has previously outlined a £39bn housing programme and plans for leasehold reform.
