Property tax rates show significant disparities in Morbihan

Property tax rates in central Morbihan, France, show significant disparities among municipalities. In 2026, the departmental average rate is 36.4%, yet 19 out of 35 communes in the central region exceed this average. For a standard 114 m2 house, the tax burden varies from €686 in Bignan to €1,063 in Colpo, representing a nearly twofold difference between the lowest and highest rates in the area.

Beyond regional variations, tax experts suggest that many homeowners may be overpaying due to administrative errors. Tax lawyer Manon Bellin notes that calculation mistakes can result in an average overpayment of €260. Homeowners are encouraged to verify their assessments through tools like the orka.tax simulator and can contest errors via the official impots.gouv.fr portal.

These discrepancies follow a 2025 decision by the Ministry of Economy to update comfort characteristic assessments for millions of homes. The tax calculation incorporates factors such as water connection, electricity, and the presence of bathrooms or heating, which has led to tax increases for approximately 7.4 million properties.
