Prophet Moses commemorated on September 4

September 4 marks the commemoration of the Prophet Moses, a central figure in religious history recognized as a legislator and prophet. According to tradition and the Pentateuch, Moses was chosen by God to lead the Hebrew people out of Egyptian bondage toward the Promised Land of Canaan.

Historical and religious accounts detail his life from being saved from the Nile as an infant to his education in the Egyptian court. His leadership is characterized by the delivery of the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai and guiding the Israelites through forty years of desert wandering. Moses is traditionally recorded to have passed away at the age of 120 after viewing the promised land from Mount Nebo.
