Prophet Samuel feast day celebrated by Orthodox Christians

Orthodox Christians are celebrating the feast day of the Prophet Samuel, the fifteenth and final judge of Israel. According to religious tradition, Samuel lived around 1100 BCE and was born in Ramath to Elkanah and Hannah.

Scriptural accounts describe Samuel being dedicated to God at the age of three. He served in Shiloh near the Ark of the Covenant and received divine revelations as a youth. His leadership was pivotal in leading the Israelites to repentance and liberation from Philistine rule.

In addition to his historical and biblical significance, the day carries specific folk traditions and moral teachings. Believers are encouraged to avoid shameful actions, practice gratitude, and refrain from taking the kindness of others for granted.
