Propofol detected in toxicology tests of singer Giorgos Mazonakis
Investigators examining the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis have reportedly detected the anesthetic propofol in his system. Toxicology tests are being conducted at the University of Thessaloniki laboratory, which has requested additional samples for quantitative analysis.
The investigation is looking into whether the presence of the drug is linked to the circumstances of his death. Authorities are also reviewing histological findings regarding a discovery in Mazonakis’ heart to determine if cardiac issues were related to medical procedures, such as hydrotherapy sessions, performed shortly before his death on September 9.
Contradictory statements have emerged regarding whether sedation was administered. While a 56-year-old doctor involved in the case denies providing sedation, reports suggest clinic staff may have different accounts. Evidence includes a nurse’s claim that the doctor inquired about a propofol antidote from an anesthesiologist, and digital records indicating searches for a propofol antidote were performed.
