South Korean National Assembly holds audits for police and prosecution

The South Korean National Assembly conducted several high-profile audits of law enforcement and judicial agencies. During the audit of the Gwangju and Jeonnam Police Agencies, lawmakers criticized the police for systemic failures, including allegations of evidence tampering and cover-ups in the ‘Jang Yun-gi case’ involving a police officer's family. Concerns were also raised regarding security gaps in rural areas and inadequate responses to relationship-based crimes.

In separate proceedings for the prosecution service, Acting Prosecutor General Lee Jeong-hyeon addressed allegations of political bias, asserting his neutrality and denying claims of being a ‘political prosecutor.’ He also clarified that there have been no reviews regarding the cancellation of criminal charges against President Lee Jae-myung.

Additionally, the National Police Agency announced it will continue investigating recent AI-driven hacking attacks on major financial institutions, such as Shinhan and KB Kookmin Bank, despite a decision by the Serious Crime Investigation Agency not to initiate its own separate probe.
