Prosecution for Organized Crime and Corruption begins leadership election

The official procedure to elect a new head for the Prosecution for Organized Crime and Corruption has commenced following the end of Islam Abazi’s mandate. Bashkim Besimi, Chairman of the Council of Public Prosecutors, confirmed that the announcement for the election has been signed and sent for publication in the Official Gazette.

Following the publication, a 15-day period will open for candidates to submit their applications. According to current law, candidates must have at least six years of uninterrupted experience as a public prosecutor and have received positive evaluations over the last three years. The successful candidate will serve a four-year term with the possibility of reelection.

Prosecutors from across the country are scheduled to vote for the new leader on October 28. While several names have been mentioned in public discourse, including Iskra Haxhi-Vasileva, Spasenka Andonova, Vlladimir Milloshevski, Aleksandar Markovskit, and Jovan Cvetanovskit, the current head, Islam Abazi, has not ruled out running for a new term.
