Prosecution seeks prison for Juntos por el Perú leader

The Public Ministry has requested five years and four months of imprisonment for Roberto Sánchez Palomino, president of the Juntos por el Perú political party. The oral trial, scheduled to begin on December 18 in a Lima court, centers on allegations of false declarations in administrative procedures and the falsification of information regarding party contributions.

Prosecutors allege that approximately S/ 283,550 in deposits made by militants were not reported to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE). The investigation, aided by the lifting of banking secrecy, suggests these funds were collected from militants and candidates during the 2018 regional and municipal elections and the 2020 extraordinary congressional elections.

According to the prosecution, a portion of these funds was directed to a bank account held by William Sánchez Palomino, the defendant's brother, bypassing the party's formal financial structure. In addition to prison time, the Public Ministry is seeking a permanent disqualification of Sánchez from holding the presidency of Juntos por el Perú.
