Prosecutor General's Office rules Fidesz server seizure was unlawful

The Prosecutor General's Office has ruled on complaints filed by Fidesz regarding investigations and seizures involving the party's servers. While the office upheld the legality of the investigation ordered by the Bács-Kiskun County Chief Prosecutor's Office concerning the National Cultural Fund (NKA) case, it ruled that the seizure of the party's servers was unlawful under both Hungarian and EU law.

The NKA investigation involves allegations of budget fraud related to approximately 17 billion HUF in grants. Following the ruling, the Prosecutor General's Office called on the Bács-Kiskun County Chief Prosecutor's Office to repeat the procedural actions. While the preservation of electronic data may remain for a maximum of three months, any subsequent seizure of data must be strictly limited to facts and time periods directly related to the NKA case.

Fidesz has characterized the initial July 21 raid on their IT service center as an attempt to seize the party's entire communication system and databases, calling the development proof of unlawful official appropriation.
