Prosecutor launches investigation into Lubartów hospital after 82‑year‑old's death

The district prosecutor's office in Lubartów, Poland, has opened a criminal investigation following media reports that the local hospital refused to admit an 82‑year‑old man to its emergency department. The family alleges the patient was turned away, denied a written explanation, and later died after being transferred to a hospital in Parczew. The hospital disputes the allegations, stating the patient was admitted to the emergency department and that organizational procedures required his transfer to a cooperating facility.

The probe will examine whether the death resulted from negligent denial of medical care. The case has drawn additional attention because a PiS councilor, Andrzej Kardas, previously underwent surgery at the same hospital on a formally suspended surgical ward, raising questions about the facility's compliance with health regulations.
