Prosecutor seeks prison for fatal hit-and-run in Kootwijkerbroek

A prosecutor has demanded a one-year prison sentence, including three months suspended, for a 29-year-old man from Voorthuizen in connection with a fatal traffic accident in Kootwijkerbroek.

The incident occurred on June 8, 2024, at the intersection of Garderbroekerweg and Kapweg. A 16-year-old girl was struck by the man's vehicle while crossing a priority road. The victim was unable to see the stop sign because it had been turned around. The driver was reportedly traveling 30 kilometers per hour over the speed limit.

Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the girl in a helpless state. She passed away in the hospital three days later. The suspect did not report the incident to the police until the following morning, claiming he was in a state of panic and fear. He reportedly took photos of the damage to his vehicle, which included a shattered windshield and a dented roof, before contacting a friend.
