Prosecutors charge aunt and partner in death of 4-year-old girl

The Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul has filed charges against the aunt and her partner for the torture and femicide of 4-year-old Samylle Valentina in Porto Alegre. The child was taken to a medical unit on August 17 without signs of life, with medical reports indicating multiple traumas.

Prosecutors allege the violence was triggered by an incident involving the child's clothing. The uncle, 22-year-old Nicolas Gabriel Almeida, was arrested in August after confessing to the assaults. The aunt was also arrested following allegations that she failed to seek immediate medical assistance, remaining at home for an incompatible amount of time despite the severity of the child's injuries.

Civil Police are continuing investigations into potential involvement by other family members and are looking into suspicions of sexual abuse.
