Prosecutors charge man with femicide in fatal Italian car crash
Prosecutors in Busto Arsizio have charged 73-year-old Fulvio Ielmini with femicide and aggravated voluntary homicide following a fatal head-on collision in Cassano Magnago, Varese. The incident, which resulted in the death of 69-year-old Pierina Buffon, was initially investigated as a road accident, but authorities now believe the crash was intentional.
According to local police reports, Ielmini allegedly drove his Jaguar into the opposing lane at approximately 140 km/h, striking Buffon’s vehicle. The investigation follows a history of reported conflict; Buffon had reportedly filed a complaint in July regarding persecutory behavior after the couple ended their eight-year relationship in June.
Ielmini is currently hospitalized under police guard in Varese. Investigators have searched his residence, seizing electronic devices and documents. Further forensic analysis, including an autopsy and kinematic expertise, is expected to clarify the exact dynamics of the collision.
