Prosecutors investigate fall of former governor Hugo Javier González
The Paraguayan Prosecutor's Office has released preliminary findings regarding the incident involving former Central Department Governor Hugo Javier González, who is currently in intensive care at the Itauguá National Hospital. The investigation focuses on whether González suffered a fall inside his cell at the La Esperanza Industrial Penitentiary.
Forensic physician Pablo Lemir provided a preliminary report stating that current injuries do not appear to be consistent with direct aggression, but rather the result of an impact related to a pre-existing medical condition and the fall. The prosecution is currently analyzing five distinct hypotheses:
1. An accidental fall in the bathroom. 2. A fall from a top bunk bed. 3. A medical event followed by a fall. 4. Aggression by third parties, noting that while multiple injuries and facial trauma exist, there is no specific evidence of a weapon or instrument. 5. A combined sequence involving a medical event, a fall, convulsions, and secondary trauma.
To date, investigators have collected approximately 30 statements and are reviewing surveillance footage from the time of the incident.
