Prosecutors reject defense objections in Bangun Paulus Tudungta extortion trial

During a hearing at the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, prosecutors responded to objections raised by the defense in the extortion and threat case involving defendant Bangun Paulus Tudungta.

The defendant is accused of extorting and threatening an entrepreneur identified by the initials VL (referred to as Vincent in related reports). Prosecutor Andri Saputra argued that the indictment was carefully and clearly drafted in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.

Addressing the defense's claim that the matter is a civil dispute regarding debt collection, the prosecution asserted that having a debt does not justify the use of violence or threats. The prosecutor emphasized that debt disputes should be handled through civil litigation rather than self-help measures. Additionally, the prosecution clarified that the material loss of Rp60.75 million was calculated by subtracting the defendant's own funds from the victim's total loss of Rp80 million.
