Prosecutors request supplementary investigation into lawmaker Kim Byung-ki
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has requested a supplementary investigation regarding an arrest warrant application for independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki. The prosecution determined that the necessity for detention was not sufficiently demonstrated, noting that Kim has cooperated with seven rounds of summons and considering the five-month interval since his final investigation in April.
Additionally, prosecutors stated that a review of collected evidence and the suspect's explanations indicated a need to reinforce evidence for certain allegations.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency had previously applied for the warrant on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, obstruction of business, and breach of duty. The investigation involves 13 allegations, including preferential treatment regarding the employment of Kim's second son, receipt of bribes, and misuse of business promotion expenses.
