Prosecutors seek 1.5-year sentence for singer Jang Yoon-jeong's mother in fraud case

Prosecutors have requested a 1.5-year prison sentence for a woman in her 70s accused of defrauding an acquaintance of approximately 31 million won by using the name of her daughter, famous singer Jang Yoon-jeong.

During the first hearing at the Seoul Eastern District Court, the defendant admitted to the charges, stating she used the funds for living expenses and credit card payments. Prosecutors noted that the defendant has a prior criminal record for a similar fraud involving 400 million won in 2018 and emphasized that the current damages have not been recovered.

Jang Yoon-jeong’s representatives have clarified that the incident is entirely unrelated to the singer, noting that she has been estranged from her mother for over a decade. The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on September 10.
