Prosecutors seek prison for János Tasó in 168 million HUF embezzlement case

The Debrecen District Prosecutor's Office has requested a prison sentence of 2 years and 8 months for János Tasó and his former wife, Erzsébet Czifra, for the alleged embezzlement of over 168 million HUF.

János Tasó is the nephew of László Tasó, a former Fidesz mayor of Nyíradony and a member of parliament. According to the indictment, the defendants used several companies—T+C Company, Truck-Food, and Joy Seclean—to secure public procurement contracts within László Tasó's constituency.

A key part of the investigation involves the development of the Nyíradony Science and Technology Park, an EU-funded project. While János Tasó's company, T+C Company, secured a 585 million HUF contract for the project, Erzsébet Czifra was responsible for financial oversight through her role in the Nyíradony Asset Management Ltd.

Investigators identified approximately fifty problematic transactions. These include instances where a 15 million HUF invoice was paid and subsequently canceled without the funds being returned. The prosecution alleges that millions of forints were transferred directly to János Tasó's private accounts.
