The German music puzzle show ‘The Masked Singer’ is introducing significant changes for its 13th season, which begins on September 16, 2026, on ProSieben and Joyn. The most notable shift is that the program will no longer be broadcast live. Instead, the shows will be pre-recorded.

Show director Hannes Hiller stated that moving away from live broadcasts allows the network to recruit high-profile celebrities whose schedules previously made a six-week live commitment impossible. This change aligns the German production with international standards used in the US and UK.

Due to the pre-recorded format, the voting mechanism is also changing. Rather than viewers deciding via an app or remote voting, the studio audience will now determine which celebrity must remove their mask. Additionally, the pace of the show will increase; in the first four episodes, two celebrities will be unmasked in each show, with the remaining two advancing to the semi-finals.

Matthias Opdenhövel will continue as the host. The judging panel will include familiar faces such as Verona Pooth and comedian Chris Tall. A total of 16 celebrities are expected to participate in the upcoming season.
