ProSiebenSat.1 revenue drops amid weak German ad market and World Cup competition

ProSiebenSat.1 Media reported first‑half revenue of €1.54 billion, down 9 % year‑on‑year, as Germany’s television advertising market softened and competition from broadcasters showing the World Cup reduced ad sales. Linear TV advertising fell 9 % while digital advertising grew, with Joyn streaming revenue up 8 % and subscription revenue up 20 %. Cost reductions and restructuring lifted first‑half EBITDA to €124 million, reversing a loss from the previous year.

In the same period, the broadcaster’s primetime audience share slipped, with ProSieben achieving a 17.9 % share and 3.24 million viewers, still ahead of ARD but below the four‑million mark needed for a strong performance. Other channels such as Sat. 1 and RTL posted modest shares, while ZDF’s partnership with Joyn added on‑demand programming to the streaming platform.
