ProSiebenSat.1 Secures Handball, Ice Hockey and Basketball World Championship Rights

ProSiebenSat.1 has purchased broadcasting rights for upcoming world championships in handball, ice hockey and basketball that feature German national teams. Sports chief Gernot Bauer explained that the strategy targets events with the German "Bundesadler" to draw larger audiences, shifting high‑profile tournaments from public broadcasters ARD and ZDF to the commercial network.

The network plans to promote the 2026 Handball World Championship, set to be held in Germany, with a documentary, a special show featuring Joko & Klaas against the national team, and increased integration of athletes into entertainment formats.
