ProSiebenSat.1 to launch Sat.2 free‑TV channel for viewers 45‑65 in 2027
ProSiebenSat.1 Media announced that it will add a new ad‑supported free‑to‑air channel called Sat.2, scheduled to begin broadcasting in early 2027. The channel is aimed at viewers aged 45‑65, especially women over 50, and will showcase German fictional series from the Sat.1 archive such as “Der Bulle von Tölz”, “Kommissar Rex” and “Verliebt in Berlin”.
Chief Content Officer Henrik Pabst said the plan reflects the group’s belief that “linear television is part of our DNA and will stay that way”, and explained that the channel will be distributed via traditional TV, the Joyn streaming platform and other digital outlets. Ellen Koch will head the new channel. Although MediaForEurope (MFE) holds a majority stake in ProSiebenSat.1 since 2025, the group stressed that programming decisions will remain in Germany and will not be influenced by the Italian owner. Sat.2 is part of a broader portfolio expansion that also includes seven world‑championship sports rights and other new formats, bringing the total number of ProSiebenSat.1 linear brands to eight.
