Prostate cancer causes 826 deaths in State of Mexico in 2025

Prostate cancer deaths in the State of Mexico reached 826 in 2025, according to data highlighting a rising trend in the region. Between 2010 and 2022, deaths associated with the disease in the state increased by approximately 58 percent, according to INEGI.

Jennifer González, President of the Health, Assistance, and Social Welfare Commission of the State of Mexico Chamber of Deputies, noted that approximately 80 percent of patients receive a late diagnosis. This delay significantly reduces treatment efficacy and survival rates, as the disease often develops without symptoms in its early stages.

Nationally, Mexico records an average of 25,000 new prostate cancer cases annually, resulting in roughly 7,000 deaths per year. Experts urge men, particularly those over 50, to undergo regular screenings, such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests and direct medical evaluations, to facilitate early detection.
