Protecció Civil addresses ES-Alert translation errors and system upgrades

Protecció Civil has addressed reports of faulty English translations appearing in ES-Alert emergency notifications sent to mobile devices. Officials clarified that the Department of the Interior provides correct translations in Catalan, Spanish, and English; however, some users received nonsensical English text due to automatic translations performed locally by their own mobile devices.

In a separate development, Protecció Civil announced a roadmap to modernize the ES-Alert system. The initiative aims to improve geographic precision to ensure alerts only reach those in immediate danger, reducing the frequency of loud alarms in unaffected areas. Currently, cellular towers broadcast signals over wide radii, often reaching neighboring towns without risk. The agency plans to introduce graduated notifications for less urgent situations and is looking toward satellite connectivity to overcome current technological limitations in geolocalization.
