Protein consumption trends reveal gap in nutritional knowledge

A sociological survey commissioned by Agrova Baltics reveals a gap between consumer interest in protein and actual nutritional knowledge. While 72% of surveyed Latvians understand the “high in protein” label, only 6% know their specific daily protein requirements. The study indicates that younger populations are generally better informed, whereas older respondents are more likely to be unaware of their dietary needs.

Nutrition experts emphasize that protein is essential for maintaining muscle mass, supporting immune cells, and providing neurotransmitters. In the UK, the recommended protein intake is approximately 0.75g per kilogram of body weight per day, though many individuals consume more. Dietitians note that protein and fiber should be viewed as complementary components of a balanced dietary pattern rather than isolated nutrients.
