Protein deficiency can hinder metabolism during holidays
Inadequate protein consumption during holidays can negatively impact metabolism. Changes in routine often lead to diets high in carbohydrates and fats, such as pastries, pasta, and snacks, while protein is frequently overlooked.
Maintaining sufficient protein intake is essential for metabolic function, satiety, and preventing fatigue or bloating. When protein levels are low, the body may break down muscle tissue for energy, which reduces the basal metabolic rate and makes it harder to regain physical balance after a vacation. A study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition noted that low protein intake, especially when paired with increased carbohydrates and fats, leads to negative metabolic consequences, including loss of muscle mass.
