Protein intake and muscle synthesis guidelines

Nutritionists and consumer studies highlight the importance of protein distribution and quality for muscle health. According to nutritionist Julia Zumpano, consuming large amounts of protein in a single sitting does not necessarily increase muscle synthesis. The body typically utilizes between 25 and 35 grams of protein per meal for this purpose, making it more effective to distribute intake throughout the day.

General guidelines suggest adults consume between 1.2 and 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, though physically active individuals or older adults may require up to 2 grams per kilogram.

In terms of dietary sources, an analysis by Profeco examined various milk products to determine protein content. High-protein options identified include Lala 100 varieties, which can provide over 56 grams of protein per liter. Premium brands such as Lala Orgánica, Alpura Selecta, Santa Clara, and Bové were also noted for their protein levels, with Lala Orgánica leading among the premium group.
