Erjon Vishkulli to undergo surgery in Rome after protest injury

Erjon Vishkulli, a 28-year-old man, is being transferred to Rome, Italy, for specialized medical treatment following a serious eye injury sustained during protests in Tirana. Vishkulli was struck in the left eye by a rubber bullet while participating in demonstrations against the government.

Medical professionals at the University Trauma Hospital have stabilized his condition, though he requires a second surgical procedure to remove a foreign object from his eye. While Prime Minister Edi Rama claimed the state facilitated his medical transport, Vishkulli’s sister has publicly disputed this, stating that the transfer was organized and funded by family, friends, and supporters to avoid political propaganda.

The incident has sparked significant political tension, with opposition leaders calling for the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible for the use of force against protesters.
