Protesters block Highway 190 in Acatlán de Osorio, demanding mayor's removal

Residents of Acatlán de Osorio in the state of Puebla blocked the federal Highway 190 on July 31 to prevent the convoy of President Claudia Sheinbaum from passing through the town. The demonstrators set up barricades, burned tires and have maintained a permanent sit‑in since mid‑June, demanding the revocation of the mandate of municipal president Guadalupe Lucero Bárcenas. They accuse the mayor of mismanagement and link the local administration to organized crime, while calling for state and federal authorities to intervene. Authorities have not reported any arrests or further actions related to the blockade. The protest reflects heightened political tension in the region ahead of the president’s scheduled visit to nearby Huajuapan de León.
