Protesters demand release of minor and removal of Tamaulipas prosecutor
Members of the ‘David Ruiz García’ autonomous civil resistance collective protested during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s visit to Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. The demonstrators demanded the release of Danna Yanina, a 17-year-old minor currently detained in connection with the death of Dafne Zapata at a militarized academy.
Protesters claim Danna Yanina is being unjustly accused without evidence and are calling for her to continue her legal process in freedom. Additionally, the collective is demanding the removal of Tamaulipas Attorney General Jesús Eduardo Govea Orozco from his position. They have accused the prosecutor of obstructing justice and alleged corruption, arguing that his continued presence in office risks further irregularities in the investigation.
The case involves the death of Dafne Zapata, which occurred in July 2026. While legal resources and injunctions have been sought by the family of the detained minor, the judicial process remains open under federal review.
