Protesters march in Guanajuato against abortion decriminalization

Thousands of protesters marched simultaneously in the Mexican cities of León, Celaya, and Irapuato to oppose the decriminalization of abortion. Organized by local Catholic dioceses and civil collectives, the demonstrations sought to urge the Guanajuato Congress to halt legislative initiatives regarding abortion rights.

In León, participants marched toward the historic center led by Auxiliary Bishop Ramón Orozco Muñoz. In Irapuato, the march was headed by Bishop Emeritus José de Jesús Martínez Zepeda. The mobilizations included families, youth, and representatives from over 15 municipalities.

Protesters demanded that authorities implement policies to protect life from conception and provide better support for women in vulnerable situations, including those facing economic or social isolation. The groups also called for strengthened adoption mechanisms, increased support for families, and greater attention to child welfare and poverty reduction.
