Protesters nearly clash at Semarang Corruption Court during Sudewo trial

Tensions nearly escalated into physical violence outside the Semarang Corruption Court on August 10, 2026, as opposing groups gathered for the corruption trial of inactive Pati Regent, Sudewo.

Two groups from Pati Regency, Aksi Pati Bangkit (APB), who support Sudewo, and Pati Ora Sepele (POS), who oppose him, faced off in front of the court. The APB group brought approximately 300 supporters to demand Sudewo's release, while the POS group, comprising around 65 members, arrived to monitor the trial and support the judiciary's objectivity in combating corruption.

Police intervened to separate the groups and prevent a clash after the supporters attempted to block the protesters from reaching the court entrance. The POS coordinator, Suharno, stated that their intention was to provide peaceful oratory and support the KPK's efforts, expressing disappointment that they were not permitted to deliver speeches in front of the court.
