Mexico faces widespread road closures and protests
Multiple regions in Mexico are experiencing significant transportation disruptions due to social protests and infrastructure issues. In Oaxaca, residents of San Juan Luvina have maintained a three-day blockade of the Oaxaca-Tuxtepec highway (Federal 175). The community is protesting the alleged misappropriation of over 2.8 million pesos in federal funds (Ramo 28 and 33) by the municipal government of San Pablo Macuiltianguis.
In the State of Mexico, families of missing persons have blocked the Mexico-Toluca highway for approximately 20 hours near Lerma, demanding progress in investigations and a meeting with the state attorney general. This has caused massive traffic congestion affecting the Libramiento Bicentenario and the Naucalpan highway.
In Mexico City, social mobilizations by Pemex and CFE retirees, as well as IMSS workers demanding better pensions and medicine supplies, have caused significant traffic delays in the Cuauhtémoc borough, specifically affecting Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Insurgentes.
Additionally, infrastructure and weather-related incidents have closed several routes: a sinkhole has halted traffic on the Veracruz-Poza Rica highway, a cement truck rollover caused a multi-vehicle accident on the Mexico-Puebla highway, and roadwork is affecting the Mexico-Querétaro highway near El Marqués.
