Protests disrupt secondary schools in Tamaulipas
Secondary schools in Tamaulipas, Mexico, have faced disruptions due to protests by parents and students regarding administrative and infrastructure issues.
At Technical Secondary School No. 68 'Tirso Saldívar Acevedo', protesters blocked access with locks and chains to demand the reinstatement of former director Arturo Saavedra. Saavedra had previously been detained following an accusation of sexual abuse, but was later exonerated of all charges by the FJGT. While some parents support his return, others have expressed concern over the methods used, noting that the blockade complicates the school day for families and raises safety concerns for students.
In Reynosa, at General Secondary School No. 11 'Siglo XXI', parents and students closed the facilities to protest ongoing electrical infrastructure failures. Demonstrators reported that frequent power outages have forced students to alternate between in-person and remote learning. The protesters are calling on the state government to repair faulty wiring and transformers, noting that similar infrastructure deficiencies affect multiple state and federal schools in the region.
