Catriel residents protest Route 151 safety; Salvador Mazza border blockade lifted

In Catriel, Argentina, residents have organized a protest for Wednesday, October 21, on National Route 151 to demand urgent road repairs. The mobilization follows a fatal accident that killed a 15-year-old girl and injured three others. Protesters plan to block truck traffic while allowing smaller vehicles to pass. Local authorities have noted that the municipality has performed 14 emergency pothole repairs over the last three years due to a lack of national maintenance. The Río Negro government is expected to sign a transfer of route maintenance to the provincial level on October 29.

Separately, the international bridge connecting Salvador Mazza, Argentina, and Yacuiba, Bolivia, has reopened following the lifting of a blockade by border workers. The protest was suspended after Bolivian authorities committed to a 15-day period to negotiate solutions regarding new customs restrictions imposed by the Argentine Tax and Customs Agency (ARCA). While truck and bus circulation has resumed, the movement of goods remains limited.
