Protests erupt in Brazil over infrastructure and water shortages
Residents in different Brazilian regions have staged protests to demand essential services and infrastructure improvements.
In Acre, inhabitants of the Mutum, Walter Arce, and Mulateiro communities blocked the Porto Acre road. The demonstrators are protesting against the Department of Roads of Acre (Deracre), alleging that roadwork has left the area with dangerous potholes and unfinished bridges. Residents expressed concerns that the current detours may not withstand the rainy season, potentially isolating the communities.
In Pará, residents of the Una neighborhood in Belém blocked the Transcoqueiro highway to protest a water shortage lasting more than 14 days. Protesters criticized the utility company Águas do Pará, noting that the lack of supply disproportionately affects children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The utility company stated it is working to clear network obstructions and is providing water trucks to the affected areas.
