Protests erupt in Germany over planned arms manufacturing

Protests have erupted in several German locations regarding the planned establishment of arms manufacturing facilities. In Sangerhausen, more than 550 people gathered on the market square to demonstrate against a proposed weapons factory. Protesters expressed concerns regarding peace, disarmament, and the environmental impact on agricultural land and water resources. Organizers emphasized that citizens should have a direct say in the city's future development rather than leaving decisions solely to the administration and investors.

Similarly, in Leipzig, several hundred participants marched under the slogan ‘No missile factory in Leipzig’. The protest was triggered by reports that the US defense company Covenant plans to manufacture cruise missiles in the Leipzig area starting next year. The demonstration involved various political groups and addressed concerns that investing in armament represents a risky economic gamble.
