Protests erupt in Vallehermoso and Valencia over utility failures

Residents in Vallehermoso have blocked the highway leading to Mérida, Yucatán, to protest prolonged shortages of electricity and potable water. The community reports experiencing electrical failures for approximately two weeks and a lack of regular water supply for over 15 days. These outages have disrupted the pumping systems managed by the Commission of Potable Water and Sewerage (CAPA). Local officials, including Bacalar councilman Manuel de Jesús Ciau Nahuat, have formally requested urgent intervention from CAPA to address the crisis affecting basic hygiene and welfare.

In Valencia, residents in several southern sectors have held consecutive days of protests against daily power outages lasting between six and seven hours. Demonstrators in neighborhoods such as Francisco de Miranda, Barrio Venezuela, La Bocaína, and Fundación Mendoza closed main avenues to express frustration over the lack of official rationing schedules. Local workers and business owners reported that the interruptions hinder commercial activities and the use of essential equipment. While police arrived to mediate, no representatives from the electricity provider, Corpoelec, were present to address the grievances.
