Protests erupt over asylum seeker housing at RAF Barnham

Protesters in Norfolk and Suffolk have organized a march from Thetford to RAF Barnham to oppose the housing of asylum seekers at the site. The planned facility is expected to accommodate 1,250 people, a figure some local residents argue is disproportionate given that the nearest village has a population of only 600.

Participants in the demonstrations have cited various concerns, including the economic cost of processing asylum seekers, the volume of arrivals, and a perceived lack of border control. Some protesters expressed fears regarding the identity of those arriving by boat. While the Labour Party has criticized the Conservative government's policy of utilizing military bases for housing asylum seekers, the local campaign against the RAF Barnham site has continued throughout the summer.
