Protests in Bucharest and Barcelona lead to arrests and traffic disruptions
In Bucharest, supporters of Călin Georgescu held a protest in front of the Court of Appeal, leading to road blockages on major arteries such as Splaiul Independenței. The Gendarmerie deployed dialogue teams to communicate with participants and explain legal provisions, urging protesters to remain responsible to avoid endangering citizens or obstructing emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks.
In Barcelona, anti-system protests escalated into violence and looting in tourist-heavy areas. Catalan Interior Minister Núria Parlon reported over 30 fires and the vandalism or looting of 14 stores, including the El Corte Inglés department store. Approximately 100 people were arrested following the unrest. Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni stated that acts of vandalism will not go unpunished, noting potential legal consequences for the guardians of minors involved.
