Autistici/Inventati collective protests follow U.S. sanctions

Protests have erupted in Florence and Rome following the decision by the United States to place the Italian hacktivist collective Autistici/Inventati on the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list.

In Florence, approximately 200 demonstrators gathered in front of the U.S. Consulate on Lungarno Vespucci before marching toward the Prefecture. The collective was designated as a ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist’ under Executive Order 13224, a measure that freezes assets under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. entities from conducting transactions with the group.

The movement, which emerged from the no-global activist tradition, recently announced the cessation of its services after 25 years of operation. Demonstrators are contesting the punitive measures taken by the U.S. government against the group.
