Protests over immigration held in Kent and Hampshire
Opposing groups of protesters gathered in coastal towns in Kent and Hampshire to demonstrate regarding immigration.
In Herne Bay, Kent, approximately 180 people participated in rallies. Members of the Kent Nationalist Movement (KNM) marched along the seafront under stormy conditions, displaying banners with slogans such as ‘White Lives Matter’. They were met by pro-immigration demonstrators. Kent Police maintained a large presence to keep the groups separate, reporting no arrests or disorder.
In Gosport, Hampshire, demonstrators organized by the ‘Gosport Patriots’ marched in opposition to the planned redevelopment of the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre. Protesters used chants such as ‘deport the lot’ while counter-protesters displayed signs supporting refugees and diversity. Police utilized vans and horses to maintain distance between the groups. The Home Office has indicated plans to reopen the Haslar facility next year, with a phased expansion intended to eventually provide capacity for approximately 600 people.
