Protolabs expands 3D printing and CNC capabilities for booming drone market

Protolabs, the rapid‑prototyping and manufacturing service provider, is increasing its 3D‑printing capacity and broadening its material portfolio while enhancing CNC machining to meet growing demand from drone manufacturers. The company reports that revenue from drone‑related customers has risen by more than 90 % since 2023, with a compound annual growth rate of roughly 40 % in that segment. As part of the expansion, Protolabs is scaling Multi‑Jet‑Fusion technology in partnership with HP Additive and now offers 75 certified materials, including high‑temperature Inconel 625, Chromoly steel AISI 4130 and lightweight aluminium 5754. The upgraded CNC‑milling service adds tighter tolerances and surface‑finishing options, aiming to shorten design cycles so functional parts can be delivered in days rather than weeks.
