Proton e. MAS 7 PHEV begins local CKD production in Tanjong Malim
Proton's e. MAS 7 plug‑in hybrid is now being assembled locally (CKD) at the Proton EV plant in the Automotive High‑Tech Valley, Tanjong Malim. The rollout was officiated by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Deputy Minister Sim Tze Tzin, Proton chairman Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, CEO Dr Li Chunrong and other executives.
The model is Malaysia's best‑selling PHEV, with 4,699 registrations recorded by June 2026, representing a 47 % share of the local PHEV segment and more than 11,000 bookings overall. The CKD programme sources roughly 30 % of the vehicle’s components from Malaysian suppliers and the plant now employs 391 staff, creating higher‑value jobs and expanding the domestic EV supply chain. The only substantive change to the CKD version is the addition of a front‑seat massage function with six modes; pricing has not yet been announced.
The local assembly is part of the broader Proton‑Geely partnership, which has lifted Proton’s annual output capacity to over 150,000 vehicles, generated tax revenues of about RM 806 million, and is credited with creating roughly 9,700 jobs across the automotive ecosystem.
