Proton resolves global outage caused by Frankfurt data center cooling failure

Proton has resolved a global service outage that occurred during the night of August 27, 2026. The disruption was caused by a critical cooling failure at a data center located in Frankfurt.

During the incident, which began investigation around 00:09 CET, Proton redirected traffic to backup locations to restore services, including Proton VPN. While most services were restored by approximately 02:27 CET, some users experienced delays in receiving and sending emails and notifications.

Proton has confirmed that no data was lost during the outage. All systems, including web and mobile applications, are currently reported as fully operational. The company plans to release a full report once cleanup efforts are complete.
