PROVIASA launches L 8.21 million vegetable production project in Honduras
A new agricultural project has been launched in Montaña de Azacualpa, Francisco Morazán, to strengthen vegetable production and increase income for small-scale producers. The initiative, titled ‘Innovation in the business model with small vegetable producers of the Central District Highlands,’ is driven by the vegetable production company PROVIASA.
The project involves a total investment of L 8.21 million. Funding is provided by the Honduran Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) via the ComRural program (L 4.24 million), Banco Ficohsa through the ‘De Mi Tierra’ program (L 2.15 million), and PROVIASA (L 1.82 million).
The investment aims to improve productive and commercial infrastructure, provide financing, and introduce specialized equipment for washing carrots to enhance product quality and marketability. The project will directly benefit 76 producers, including 23 women and 53 young people, by providing access to seeds, inputs, technical assistance, and the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
