Province expands dementia care programs to more long-term care homes

A provincial government is expanding its Improving Dementia Care Program to additional long-term care homes. An investment of nearly $13 million will extend the program to 50 homes by 2028, providing specialized support to up to 1,300 additional residents.

The program utilizes emotion-based care models designed to prioritize resident needs and foster stronger relationships between staff, residents, and families. Additionally, the province is committing $9.82 million in annual funding starting this year to support up to 153 behavioral specialized unit beds across five long-term care homes. These units aim to provide person-centered care through staff trained to address the physical, emotional, and cultural needs of residents.
